Nestled in the heart of Geraldine you will find the beautifully restored Vicarage boutique accommodation. This historic homestead offers luxury accommodation in pretty Geraldine, the gateway to Lake Tekapo and the Dark Sky Reserve. Six beautifully appointed guest rooms, each with a comfortable super-king bed and ensuite. The Barker's Foodstore & Eatery is next door offering product tastings and delicious food and beverages featuring Barker's extensive range of drinks, condiments, jams, dressings, sauces and more.

After a two-year renovation the Vicarage opened in October 2019. The eye catching wallpaper’s, stained glass windows, vicar’s sitting room and attention to every detail, are the talk of the town.

Winter season  – 1 April 2020 - 30 Sept. 2020, $250

Summer season–1 Oct. 2020 - 31 Mar.  2021, $335

Room only, breakfast is not included.

Includes a complimentary bottle of wine in the fridge of each room and the communal sitting rooms offer a nightcap of port or “eau de vie” (made by Michael’s father).

Accommodation Information:

Six deluxe bedrooms, each with ensuite & small kitchenette. Max occupancy is two persons.

The three upstairs bedrooms are spacious and share “The Bob Lowe sitting room”  including well appointed kitchenette and TV.

The three downstairs bedrooms share “The Vicar’s sitting room” including well appointed kitchenette, gas fire, TV and deck.

Bedroom two downstairs is an accessible bedroom which you can request.

There is no lift. A beautiful old staircase accesses the upstairs rooms.

All rooms have super-king beds that can also be configured into two single beds.

Minimum age is 14 years.

All guests can access a shared laundry with washing machine, drier, iron & ironing board.

Checkout is 10am. Later by prior arrangement

Check-in any-time after 3pm. Earlier by prior arrangement.

We will advise the unique lock box code when we confirm each booking, so you can include it in your guest’s itinerary.

We are not a full service hotel, but we do provide fresh towels every second day and clean sheets every third day.

Continental breakfast for two: $30.

Cold supper platter for two: $25 for vegetarian and $35 for either seafood or meat.

The shared sitting rooms have full cooking facilities.

Full day (7- 8 hours) Mesopotamia guided 4x4 adventure tour with Alps2Ocean.

Pick up from the Vicarage, and travel via Peel Forest and up the mighty Rangitata River Valley to visit the historic Mesopotamia sheep station located in the heart of the Southern Alps. The 4WD vehicle will take you high on station tracks through the deer park, you may also see Himalayan Thar. You will understand why this landscape was chosen as the site for Edoras and Helm's Deep in the "Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy. Picnic lunch & refreshments provided. Pick up from the Vicarage, and travel deep into the heart of the Southern Alps to ride hidden high country trails. Four wheel drive to a picnic spot up the Rangitata valley surrounded by snow capped peaks and snowfields then ride the long gradual descent on clay and grass tracks down to the valley floor. Horse Trekking with Peel Forest Horse Trekking at Peel Forest.

The two hour river & forest trek takes you along the Rangitata River, and into Peel Forest. During this ride you will have stunning views up the Rangitata River to the Southern Alps.  Suited to all levels of riders.  Experienced riders can go for a canter if desired. $120 per person. DAY ONE

Breakfast and browse at the Barker’s Foodstore & Eatery next door from 8.30am

Morning walk: Walk the Geraldine Walkway. Allow up to 1 hour plus another hour for browsing as you walk back down the main street!

DAY TWO

Start your day with a slice of authentic New Zealand farming life. Geraldine Farm Tours will show you a working sheep and beef farm and a leading deer farm and allow you to get hands on with farm animals.(021 065 0574 or 03 692 2900).

If golf is not your thing, we suggest a drive to Lake Tekapo (one hour) with a lunch stop at the Fairlie Bakehouse for one of their famous salmon & bacon or pork belly pies. Or push on and enjoy the cuisine and views of the lake from the Kohan Japanese restaurant. We suggest you drive up Mt John ($8.00 road toll, 15 minutes drive to the top, beyond Tekapo) to enjoy a coffee in the Astro Cafe, the 360 views over the McKenzie country are stunning on a good day. From the town you can walk across the bridge to visit the iconic Church of The Good Shepherd and the McKenzie Sheep Dog Statue which recognises the value of the sheep dog.    

DAY THREE

Travel by car to Peel Forest and continue up the spectacular Rangitata River Gorge – drive as far as Mesopotamia Station 03 696 3738 (70km one way). (If this is your last day, you will have plenty of time to drive home. If you are heading North, turn off after Peel Forest and cross the inland Rangitata River bridge and take the inland Scenic Route. If you are heading South, drive back through Geraldine.) 

DAY FOUR

Take a 30 minute drive into Timaru, the regional centre, and stroll along the Caroline Bay boardwalk which showcases the South Island's most popular beach. Visit the Te Ana Maori rock art centre, check out the cafes, bars, restaurants and shops as you walk up Stafford Street to the Bay Hill.  
If you have time we suggest you detour via Pleasant Point and Raincliff on your way back to Geraldine to take in some local history and scenery. The Pleasant Point Railway Museum invites you to book a visit on Saturdays and Wednesdays - ring them first on (+64) 3 614 8323.  Drive through Pleasant Point then turn right up Totara Valley and through Raincliff to Pioneer Park which is a 390-hectare conservation area with links to the early settlers of the district. The Homebush Track is an easy 30 minute walk through native bush or you could opt for a longer 2 hour walk. Then drive back to Geraldine via Gudex Road, Skipton Bridge and SH79.
